GCI customers in the Mendenhall Valley and Lemon Creek areas experienced a temporary outage of Internet and digital phone services Monday morning.
GCI retail store manager Pam Johansen said it was caused by a rectifier that burned out in the Valley optical transport network. She said the company immediately replaced it with a spare, yet it was normal for the entire process to go back online slowly.
She said the entire outage lasted from around 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. She noted the system is set up so that during this time, customers were still able to call emergency services.
"We're very sorry for the disturbance to our customers," Johansen said.
