911 system on the blink for 112 hours Thursday

Posted: Friday, October 20, 2000

The 911 emergency system in Juneau was not operating for a short period Thursday afternoon.

It was down from about 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., said Assistant Chief of Police Greg Brown. "We heard it was electrical or switching problems downtown," he said.

"As soon as we realized the system was not operational, we put out public service announcements over radio stations so people could contact us over the regular lines," he said.

The Juneau Police Department also had temporary difficulties calling out from the new station on Alaway Avenue. Today, however, everything seems to be working well.
