Dems object to posting of write-in list

Posted: Wednesday, October 20, 2010

JUNEAU - The Alaska Democratic Party says a list of write-in candidates was illegally posted on state Division of Elections' letterhead at an early voting station in Homer.

Among other things, Democrats are asking election officials to ensure ballots cast with write-in votes on Monday and Tuesday, the first days of early voting, be segregated. Election officials didn't immediately return messages.

Sarah Mouracade, a spokeswoman for the party's coordinated campaign, says it's her understanding a clerk in Homer removed the list after seeing a voter take a picture of it with a camera phone. The image, released by the party, shows Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Democrat Sid Hill listed as Senate write-in candidates and Bill Cook as a Republican state House candidate.
