It was an interesting article about avalanches on the mountains above us. As anyone can see, where there are no trees; it was an avalanche area in the past. We have become comfortable with the avalanche control program of shooting them down before they are a problem.
But is anyone studying or core drilling the rock faces and protuberances that are above the 12th Street hillside area? Or the stability of the hillside above downtown? There was a major slide that killed several people the year I was born, in 1938. Now they have put up a retaining wall and built another gift shop.
One thing we should learn from New Orleans is to observe and respect Mother Nature. Don't even think of ignoring or fighting her.
