Juneau Ski Club/National Ski Patrol - 52nd Annual Ski Swap: The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Centennial Hall. Yukon River Quest - Presentation at UAS: Jeff Brady will be making a presentation about Yukon River Quest on Nov. 6, Sunday, 7 p.m. at the UAS Student Activities center. It will include a 50-minute BBC Challenge program and then Brady will talk about his 2005 race experience when he raced his daughter. Also, other Juneau paddlers will share their experieinces. Yukon River Quest - registration: Registration has begun for the 2006 Yukon River Quest canoe and kayak race. The 460-mile race spans the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City in Yukon Territory, Canada. Deadline for entry is May 26. There is a limit of 70 canoe and kayak teams and only 25 solo kayak teams. Entry fees are $700 (Canadian) for tandem canoes and kayaks, $400 for solo kayaks and $200 for voyager teams. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Adult Ordway Basketball League team signups - The Juneau Department Parks and Recreation will be holding late registration from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21, at the Parks and Recreation office. There will be a $10 late fee for late registration. The season runs through the second week of February. Scorekeepers also are needed (and the positions are paid). Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Women's Classic League - The league is designed for women who enjoy basketball and want to play for fun, but with women who are new to the game or have limited time. Practices start in November and games take place on Wednesdays through Feb. 1. The cost is $47.25 per player and players can register with Parks and Recreation. Forms are due by Oct. 28. Mount Jumbo preschool open gym - Preschool open gyms for children ages 1-6 and an adult parent or caregiver takes place from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesday, Thursdays and Fridays through April 28. There must be at least one adult present for every four kids. There is a $1 per child fee or punchcards for $10 or $50 can be bought at the gym, which is located at 909 4th St. in Douglas. Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 5-7 p.m. on Mondays, and 3:30-7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. Evening masters swimming program - The Augustus Brown pool hosts a twice-weekly evening masters swimming program. The program will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and is designed to promote and improve the physical and mental well-being of adults age 19-older. Basketball/volleyball court rentals available - The Juneau Community Schools program has basketball/volleyball court rental times available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School. Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
