Vote: Protect women's reproductive rights

Posted: Wednesday, October 23, 2002

Fundamentally, freedom means having a choice. If protecting a woman's right to choose among reproductive options is important to you, please vote for Fran Ulmer.

Fran has supported reproductive rights for women throughout her political career. The Knowles-Ulmer administration opposed anti-choice legislation ranging from denial of funds for abortions for poor women to parental consent requirements. Leman voted for these legislative assaults on a woman's right to make her own medical decisions. The Knowles-Ulmer administration created the Denali Kidcare program, providing care to over 700 pregnant women and over 11,000 children. The Republican majority, including Leman, also attacked this program. As a representative, Fran supported contraceptive availability for women.

Murkowski and Leman do not support the reproductive rights of women. Murkowski voted against abortion access for military service members and has opposed funds for international family planning. Over the past three years, Murkowski has consistently voted against the positions of the American Public Health Association, the American Medical Association, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the National Abortion Rights Action League and Planned Parenthood of America. The combined voting record of Murkowski and Leman guarantees that an administration headed by them would be detrimental to the basic reproductive health rights and availability of reproductive health care for Alaska women. Vote for reproductive freedom. Vote for Fran Ulmer.
