Juneau resident Patrick Francis Mitten, 69, died Oct. 20, 2003, in Juneau.
He was born March 11, 1934, in Dublin, Ireland. He was a carpenter who worked in Ireland, Bermuda and Canada before coming to Alaska to work on the pipeline as well as various public and private construction projects throughout Alaska. He was a member of Carpenter's Union Local 2247.
His family wrote, "People who knew him a long time remembered him as very true to his friends. If you were his friend, you were a friend for life. He never left a friend in a jam and always helped others. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him both personally and professionally."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Martha Mitten; and brothers, Matthew and Robert Mitten.
He is survived by his wife, Jean Mitten of Juneau; son, Shane Mitten of Juneau; daughters, Susan (Gordon Johnson) Mitten of Juneau, and Lisa (Kim Windous) Mitten of Eagle River; grandchildren, Darby and Cian Windous of Eagle River; brothers, Joseph and Hubert Mitten, both of Dublin, Ireland; sisters, Kitty (Brian) Durrad of Dublin, Ireland, and Phyllis Lynch of Arklow, Ireland; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, David and Margaret McConville of Newry, Northern Ireland, and Betty and Hugh McAllister of Cookstown, Northern Ireland.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Saint Paul's Catholic Church. A wake will follow at his daughter Susan's house, 7950 Gladstone St., Juneau, AK 99801.
