State plans pike kill at Anchorage lake

ANCHORAGE - Ten years after someone introduced northern pike to Anchorage's Cheney Lake, the Department of Fish and Game is taking drastic measures to get rid of the invasive species.

Crews will dump a toxic chemical, rotenone, into the lake to eradicate pike.

Marianne Profita says people used to flock to the shore just steps from her backyard for some of the best rainbow trout fishing in Anchorage.

Biologists say the rotenone will kill all fish and then decompose. They plan to stock the lake in the spring with trout.
