Begich says he doesn't have city e-mails

ANCHORAGE - U.S. Sen. Mark Begich says he doesn't plan to hand over private e-mails to a lawyer for the municipality of Anchorage because he doesn't have any that relate to last year's budgetary process.

The attorney is seeking any e-mails in an investigation whether Begich withheld information about the city's budget from assembly members when he was mayor last year.

Assembly member Bill Starr has made the allegation.

Begich's office tells Anchorage television station KTUU that the freshman Democratic senator received the request last week.

Begich has written back to the attorney, saying he no longer has e-mails that date back that far. He also says he never received any exclusive e-mails at his home account.
