The best road in the world won't improve access to the Legislature if our legislators are not approachable and responsive to their constituents. I have known Kim Elton for over 20 years and if there is one trait that characterizes Kim and his approach to public service, it is a willingness to listen. I have had occasion to visit the Capitol in the interim between sessions. For the most part it is an empty building, unless you happen to pass Kim's office. Kim is not a fisherman, he is not an insurance salesman, he is not a lawyer. He is a legislator, full time. That's what I want and that's what Juneau deserves.
I've kept an eye on him on the Assembly, in the House, and lately in the Senate. He always votes his conscience, which is just about the hardest thing there is to do. Look at what he's done not just what he says he is going to do. He's earned our trust and our support.
Kim helped get a huge number of Juneau needs met, from the new National Guard Armory to the university Lena Point facility and a Valley high school.
He stopped capital move bills and protected Southeast and rural Alaska over and over again. That's the kind of lawmaking that makes friends for Juneau. He's also been a steady proponent of an issue that is very important to me, stiffer penalties for drunk driving. I'll be voting for Kim. I hope you do, too.
