Hurricanes hold off Sitka for Senior Division title

Hawkeyes win Junior Division while Seahawks take Cub crown

The Hurricanes received two touchdowns from Randy Segelhorst to capture the Juneau Youth Football League Senior Division championship with a 22-16 victory over Sitka on Saturday at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field.

Sound off on the important issues at

Segelhorst scored on a 7-yard run in the first quarter and Alex Matheson followed with a two-point conversion to put the Hurricanes ahead 8-0 in the first quarter.

Sitka tied it up at 8-8 in the fourth quarter as Ryne Sorenson scored on a 3-yard run and Leland Shennett converted a two-point play.

Segelhorst immediately put the Hurricanes back on top by taking the ensuing kickoff, faking a reverse and scampering 70 yards for a score.

Vihn Le added a clutch insurance touchdown later in the quarter when he scored on a 3-yard run. Segelhorst hit Jack Clark with a two-point pass to put their side up 22-8.

Sorenson added a second TD late in the game and hit Nels Svenson with a two-point conversion pass to round out the game's scoring.


Hawkeyes 34, Huskies 20

Samson Nauer scored three rushing touchdowns as the Hawkeyes downed the Huskies for the Junior Division championship.

Nauer scored on runs of 47, 7 and 3 yards in the win. He also threw a two-point conversion pass to Chris Mack ran for another two-pointer.

Mack added a 35-yard touchdown run and caught a 68-yard TD pass from Villiami Tupou.

Trey Williams, Dartanan Campos and Trevor Pfaff all had TD runs for the Huskies. Pfaff added a two-point run in defeat.


Seahawks 25, Cowboys 6

The Seahawks rattled off 25 straight points to win the Cub Division championship.

Merced Duran gave the Cowboys an early 6-0 lead when he scored on a 7-yard run.

For the Seahawks, Kaleb Tompkins scored TD runs of 20, 19 and 27 yards in the win while Moa Maka had a 14-yard TD run and an extra point.
