I believe it is important for the public to have the facts on candidates that run for public office. That is why I am taking the time to respond to allegations that appeared in the letters to editor column on Oct. 24.
Alcohol tax: I support Rep. Lisa Murkowski's legislation that raised the alcohol tax by .10 cents a glass. I do not support additional tax.
Abortion: I am pro-choice. I support current laws on public funding for Medicaid-eligible women in cases of rape, incest and to protect the life of the mother.
Judicial appointment: I support the current system of judicial appointment.
Affirmative action: I do not support hiring quotas. I believe that minority hire should reflect the true makeup of a community, and I support equal pay for equal work, a concept first suggested by my grandmother in the 1946 Alaska Territorial Legislature.
