The people of Juneau were indeed smart to say "no to fluoridation."
Sound off on the important issues at
We in Hawaii have been continuously stopping them for more than 50 years. A recent study published in 2006 by the National Research Council (research arm of the National Academies of Science) had members of the Council questioning the safety of fluoridation, with 10 of 12 agreeing that dental fluorosis is an adverse health effect. Also, two very recent studies published in the journal Neurotoxicology by RP Maas et al, and MJ Coplan et al, (in press) confirmed that fluoridation chemicals in conjunction with chlorination chemicals do increase the leaching of lead from brass components.
The irony is, here we are, worried about the lead from toys made in China, while we are letting our children and infants directly ingest lead from fluoridated drinking water. Perhaps, this is another reason why the American Dental Association recently released an alert to advise not using fluoridated water to make infant formula.
