ANCHORAGE - A teenage driver trying to elude Anchorage police crashed into a pickup and both burst into flames.
Anchorage police say 18-year-old Maringa Kalinina is charged with eluding arrest, reckless driving and assault.
Lt. Dave Parker tells the Anchorage Daily News that toxicology results could lead to a driving under the influence charge.
An officer at about 11 p.m. Friday tried to pull over a car swerving near Boniface Parkway and DeBarr Road, but when his emergency lights went on, the female driver sped off in the wrong lane of traffic.
Kalinina's car struck a pickup driven by Chad Renner and flames erupted from both vehicles, Parker said. Passers-by got them out.
Parker says Kalinina acknowledged using alcohol and drugs before driving.
