Cell phones lead to near misses

Letter to the editor

The letter written by Barbara Thurston in Wednesday's paper was very interesting.

I don't think driving while talking on a cell phone is very safe. On two different occasions I was almost struck by drivers on cell phones.

Both times I was in a crosswalk. Now these are supposed to be the safe way of crossing a street. A normal undistracted driver would have seen me and acted accordingly.

These two drivers saw me and had to apply brakes. One lady even got irate at me for telling her to hang up and drive.

I have talked with other people on this subject, and it seems distracted drivers are a fairly common thing in Juneau and most of them are on cell phones.

I hope this subject gets people thinking and paying attention while driving.
