Gender wasn't the only issue

Letter to the editor

Posted: Tuesday, October 26, 2004

In response to Peggy Ann McConnochie's Oct. 17 letter to the editor:

According to Jeannie Johnson's Juneau Empire candidate profile, she did not vote for the recent mill rate increase because, "It hurts my industry when property tax goes up." I feel that Juneau is best served by Assembly members that put the interests of our community first, not those of a certain industry. Although the Assembly should reflect Juneau's diversity (gender and otherwise), it should not be achieved through the election of candidates with a self-serving agenda.

This is why I voted to "deny" Jeannie's re-election.
