Anchorage may raise user fees to balance budget

Posted: Tuesday, October 26, 2010

ANCHORAGE - Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan is proposing an increase in fees on city services to bring in another $2 million a year to help balance the budget.

Sullivan told The Anchorage Daily News that people at public hearings in August said they favored increases in user fees rather than tax increases.

The increases could be applied to vehicle and aircraft registrations, planning reviews and construction permits, fire and elevator inspections and parks and recreation charges.

The fee increases are scheduled for a Nov. 9 public hearing at the Anchorage Assembly.
