Worthwhile step

Princess Cruise Lines and Alaska Electric Light and Power are embarking on a commendable effort to reduce visible air pollution in Juneau. Using excess summertime power generation capacity for cruise ship power needs instead of burning fuel for vessel generators while the ships are docked will allow the cruise ships to shut down their smoky power plants. This step will result in immediate health and environmental benefits for all of us and may slightly lower energy costs for local residents depending on the tariff approved by the Regulatory Commission of Alaska for this activity.

This effort by Princess to reduce obvious air pollution is worthy of thanks by everyone in Juneau.
