A recent letter writer noted that Sen. Kim Elton disappointed him by voting against a resolution encouraging Congress to make burning the flag unconstitutional.
I want to thank Kim for not doing the political thing with a throwaway vote that meant nothing but taking time away from other key issues.
As a Vietnam veteran, I can tell you that I fought for what the flag stood for - not a bunch of politicians trying to make hay on a divisive issue.
Kim, also a Vietnam vet, was there and knows exactly how I feel. I'm glad he voted the way he did.
Thank you, Kim, for seeing the forest for the trees, for thinking of others and thank you for being a vet.
