The North Pacific Fishery Management Council is seeking nominations for its advisory panel, its Scientific and Statistical Committee, and the Pacific Northwest Crab Industry Committee.
The council has primary responsibility for groundfish management in the Gulf of Alaska and Aleutian Islands, and makes allocation and limited entry decisions for halibut.
The advisory panel is composed of fishing industry members and others interested in the North Pacific fisheries. Eight seats are open. Terms expire this year for Tim Evers, Bob Gunderson, Chuck McCallum, Michelle Ridgway, Beth Stewart, Lori Swanson and John Crowley.
The council will also approve a replacement for John Henderschedt during 2009. Jerry Downing is currently in that seat through the end of 2008.
Twelve nominations are open for the crab committee, which the council formed to give Bering Sea crab industry members access to the Alaska regulatory process. It meets several times a year.
Letters of interest or nomination and resumes should be sent to the NPFMC, 605 W. 4th Avenue, No. 306, Anchorage, AK 99501, by 5 p.m. Dec. 1. Appointments will be announced at the end of the next council meeting the week of Dec. 3, at the Hilton Hotel in Anchorage, and will become effective in January 2009.
