FAIRBANKS - Jerry Cleworth has been sworn in as mayor of the city of Fairbanks after defeating incumbent Terry Strle in a close race earlier this month.
The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reported the new mayor's first major task is the budget proposal, which is due to the City Council on Friday.
After he was sworn in Monday, Cleworth promised transparency to the council members and said there won't be any major expenses without their approval and advice.
The City Council also welcomed a new member, Jim Matherly, a longtime banker who grew up in Fairbanks and is president of Fairbanks Title Agency.
