• Eaglecrest Ski Area Season Pass Fair - Juneau's downhill ski area holds its annual Season Pass Fair this weekend. Saturday's events include season pass sales, employment booth, historical photo display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; brunch prepared by Channel Bowl chef Laurie Berg and Friends of Eaglecrest (free for season pass holders) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; maintenance facility open house and mountain equipment display from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and a film festival in the day lodge from 1-5 p.m. Sunday's events include season pass sales, drawing for free youth pass, employment booth, family games, door prizes and vendors/displays from noon to 5 p.m.; and make-your-own ice cream sundaes from 2-5 p.m. Season passes are $249 adults, $199 youth (grades 6-12) and seniors (age 65-older), $99 child (grades 1-5) and $25 for kids in kindergarten or younger, if purchased by Saturday, Nov. 8. • Juneau Rifle and Pistol Club - Fall High-Power Rifle Championships: Meet at 8:30 a.m. at the Hank Harmon Rifle Range, Mile 2 Montana Creek Road, for registration and target preparation. Mandatory safety meeting is at 9:15 a.m., and shooting starts at 9:30 a.m. This event will be 50 shots for service/match rifles and 32 shots for hunting rifles. • 50th Annual Ski Sale - The sale takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Centennial Hall, with a $2 admission charge (age 12-younger free). Sale items can be checked in from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7, and from 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8. Items must have a minimum sale price of $5 each. MEETINGS / CLINICS / ANNOUNCEMENTS

• Juneau Soccer Club registration - Registration for JSC's 2003-04 season is underway. Youth of all skill levels are invited to develop their soccer skills and love of the game through training and competition. JSC programs are open to youth in grades 4-12. Juneau teams have won seven state titles over the past two years, the most of any club in Alaska. The club is on the Web at http://www.juneausoccer.org. • Dredge Lakes trail work party - The Juneau Nordic Ski Club and Trail Mix will host a day of trail work along the Dredge Lakes Trail on Saturday, Nov. 1. The work party will be filling in potholes along the trail to make it easier to lay down ski tracks. Meet at 9 a.m. at the Back Loop-Mendenhall River Bridge parking area. • Learn to skate and figure skating lessons - Registration for these classes takes place from 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Nugget Mall. • Adult basketball scorekeepers needed for 2003-04 season - Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation seeks scorekeepers for the season, which starts on Sunday, Nov. 9, and will run through the first week of January. Adult basketball scorekeepers are paid a nominal fee for their service. Info: Juneau Parks and Rec office, 586-5226.

• Juneau Volleyball Association Reverse Coed Volleyball - Registration is underway for the adult reverse coed volleyball league. In reverse coed volleyball, play is on a women's-height net, and men are considered "back-row players" and are only allowed to hit from behind the 10-foot line. The league will have two six-team divisions, with one game per week from Nov. 10 through Dec. 17. Info: Juneau Volleyball Association, 789-3052.

• 4-H karate fall classes - Juneau's 4-H Shotokan Karate-Do club has started its fall classes. Adults and kids from age 7 and up are invited to join the club, which meets from 6-6:45 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday nights and from 10-11 a.m. on Saturdays. Youth members pay $26.25 per month to join the club; additional family members can join at a reduced cost. • Youth open gyms - Meet from 8-11 p.m. on Saturdays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Youth open gyms are free for students in grades 5-12. Info: Community schools director Joyce Kitka, 463-1700, Ext. 327.

• Adult volleyball/basketball open gyms - Meet from 7-9 p.m. on Fridays and from 7-9 p.m. on Sundays at Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School gym. Cost is $4 and open gym is limited to adults (age 18-older) only. Info: Community Schools, 463-1700, Ext. 325.

• Mount Jumbo Gym preschool open gym - This Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation program is open from 10:30 a.m. to noon every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at 909 Fourth Street in Douglas for children ages 1-6 and their parents or caregivers. A ratio of four children to one adult must be met. Balls, mats, trikes, scooters, large building blocks, parachutes and a Little Tykes climber system will be available for use. • Zach Gordon Youth Center climbing wall - Climbing wall hours are 3-7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and 3-9 p.m. on Fridays. The climbing wall can be used by people of all ages. Climbers age 20-younger climb free, while adults 21-older pay $5 to use the wall. Youth-adult interaction is encouraged, so an adult climbing with a youth pays no fee. • Treadwell Arena programs - The ice arena is open seven days a week with a variety of public open skates, youth open skates, pond hockey and rental times available (see Treadwell Arena Web site for details). The rink is closed for ice maintenance from 7:45-10:45 a.m. on Mondays and from 7:45 a.m. to noon on Fridays. Fees for open skates are $4 adults, $3 youths (age 17-younger) and $2 seniors (age 65-older). Fees for pond hockey are $5 adults, $4 youths and $3 seniors. Skate rental is $2 for adults and youths, and $1.90 for seniors. Passes are available for open skates, pond hockey and skate rental. Facility rental is $150 an hour. • Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday and Saturday hikes - For updates on locations of Wednesday and Saturday group hikes, call the Juneau Parks and Recreation Hikes Hotline. Always remember to bring plenty of food and water, wear warm layers of clothing and proper footwear for the hike. No dogs or firearms are allowed. Wednesday hikes are limited to hikers 18 years of age or older. Saturday hikes are open to families, and children must be accompanied by an adult.
