I am a chemical dependency counselor. If marijuana is not addictive, how come I have so many people come in for treatment of marijuana addiction?
You would be surprised to know how many clean, hard-working people use marijuana.
To the hemp-heads: A lot of us out here did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday. We don't buy this thing that hemp is just for clothing and material.
One side hammers about integrity in the White House. I have yet to hear the other side mention the Iran-Contra affair or Bush's little brother leaving taxpayers stuck with $1 billion in a Denver savings and loan failure.
With respect for, but in opposition to, my brother disabled veteran with Vietnam service who thinks George Bush isn't the best choice for president, I don't think a paper-pushing copy boy in a secure area who spent 153 days protected by bodyguards from making a fool of himself is not representative of a real Vietnam vet. Sen. Al Gore made sure his boy got a cushy job far away from threat to life and limb. Please think long and hard about a candidate who believes Bill Clinton is the best president ever.
People who gripe about GCI cable spend too much time on their couches with remote controls rather than going out and getting exercise. I mean, come on, you know, get real.
The electricity goes out all the time in Juneau and nobody complains, but if cable TV goes out for a few minutes, people have a fit.
Why does the cable company keep trying to rip everybody off?
I, too, think it would be a good idea for the police department to allow citizens to use their indoor shooting range. However, the police department does not have an indoor shooting range. It is a bare-bones building and does not even have a garage for mechanics to work on the squad cars.
Regarding the caller who wanted public access to the police department gun range, the police department does not have a shooting range, but if we had one we would be glad to have him and his friends shoot with us there.
Regarding the front page story about "gun scare at school," I was there and the gun really played no part in this thing. This paper will stoop to whatever level. Not condoning this driver's actions, but the gun had nothing to do with it. The man simply had a hunting rifle in his car and he was not the one who took it out, the police officers did. It's a disgrace that we have to have these things in our paper.
I am amazed that AM630 takes off non-controversial, middle-of-the-road people and leave on the air people who talk dirty and offer hate-filled speech.
When a school bus is stopped at an intersection and the red lights are on, traffic is supposed to stop from all directions. Cars should not pull around and keep going.
It's ridiculous for the city to allow building downtown at this time of year.
On Fifth Street in Douglas cars come ripping by at 45-50 mph all the time. I'm sure people are more likely to disregard speed limits now since the chief of police said they don't have any officers for traffic enforcement.
