Juneau resident Andrew Gibb, 16, died Oct. 20, 2004, at Children's Hospital in Seattle after a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 28, 1988, in Seattle. He had a great love for comedy, drama and rock music. His family said, "He was a caring and giving person who was a devoted older brother and son." He enjoyed snowboarding, going to Mariners games, burning CDs, playing guitar, making movies and spending time with friends and family. He aspired to be a police officer. He wanted to return to Juneau to see his friends and family, including Joardan Savland, Nick Marthaller and Doug Farnsworth, who his family said, "he missed terribly."
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Frances E. Gibb.
He is survived by his mother, Cheryle Gibb of Juneau; father, Gary W. Johnson of Anacortes, Wash.; stepfather, Doug Rice of Juneau; brother, Dylan Rice of Juneau; sisters, Emma Rice of Juneau, and Kaitlyn Hasty of Ketchikan; stepbrother, Levi Rice of Ankeny, Iowa; grandparents, Lawrence and Anne Gibb of Padre Island, Texas, and Gerd and Wally Johnson of Anacortes, Wash.; step-grandparents, Jim Rice and Louise Silet of Juneau; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Oct. 29, 2004, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. A celebration of his life will follow at the gathering space in St. Paul's.
