Jorma K. Krook was born in Jyvaskyla, Finland on Jan. 4, 1953. He died on Oct. 26, 2009 at the age of 56.
When he was four years old his family left Finland for the United States. They then moved to Kent, Wash. He attended elementary and junior high school there, along with helping on his family's farm. On Jan 1, 1968, his family moved again, this time to Juneau, where his father and his partner started Euro Volkswagen.
He attended Juneau-Douglas High School and graduated in 1971. He worked for Euro Volkswagen through high school and after graduation. He worked with his father until his father retired and sold the business. He then went to work for Glacier Auto Parts for 20 years. As people will tell you, he was one of the best parts men in town.
He married Barb Barger, but after 10 years they separated but remained best of friends. He may have been small in stature but was unmeasurable in heart and soul. He cared very deeply for his family and friends.
He enjoyed the waters around Juneau and fished when he was younger. His main hobby was bowling, from high school until only a couple of years ago. He was always on a team and bowled in many leagues. He traveled to state and national tournaments as well as bowling in local tournaments. He has many patches and trophies from his bowling days, and even a perfect score of 300 in 1994. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and even took a ride around Daytona Raceway in an official race car. He was thrilled. He loved people and enjoyed hanging out and visiting with one and all.
He is proceeded by his mother Saara M. Krook. He is survived by is father, Eero Krook; his brother, Jari Krook and wife Sandy Krook, of Juneau; his brother Harry Krook and sister Irma Hurst and her husband, Robert Hurst, of Tavares, Fla.; his nieces Kasey and Saara K. Krook; great niece, Zoey Krook; all of Juneau; his aunt Judy Keskinen and her children and many more aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of his life will be held at 3 p.m. on Nov. 8 at the Juneau Moose Family Club on Old Dairy Road.
