Stevens ads disingenuous

This past week I have seen a number of TV ads sponsored by the National Republican Senatorial Committee wherein Ted Stevens says that Lisa Murkowski is the best Senate partner he has ever had. Wow. That means that Lisa, in Ted's opinion, is better than her dad, Frank; and in just two years proved to be better than Frank in all his 22 years in the U.S. Senate. I don't think Ted means this. I think it is just more of the same. The Republicans are so scared of losing control of the Senate that they will do and say almost anything.

Another point that I remember in Ted's ad is that he says something to the effect that the electorate should not be worried about appointed senators. And then the TV picture shows these big headlines, "Hickel appoints Stevens." I don't believe that Stevens is Hickel's son, so I think the inference that Stevens is asking us to make is not valid.

Apparently, $100,000 was left in Frank Murkowski's campaign and he recently turned it over tot the Alaska Republican Committee. I'm sure some of this money is being used in Stevens' ad telling voters that Lisa is a better senator than her dad ever was. Ironic, isn't it?

I feel certain that Tony Knowles will make a great senator for Alaska. I hope voters will check into the record of the Republican-controlled Congress. We need Tony Knowles in Washington. I hope voters will listen to what his plans are. He will do a great job for all Alaskans (not just those in Ketchikan).
