We would like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who braved the wind and the rain to participate in the second annual Hasty Half Marathon on Oct. 2.
The Hasty Half is a fun run, conceived last year by group of girlfriends as part of a birthday celebration. The event was so much fun we decided to do it again and invite others to join us.
This year, we decided to run in honor of the fallen Hoonah police officers Matthew Tokuoka and Anthony Wallace. We accepted donations from participants so that we could contribute to the memorial fund that has been set up for their families. We are so pleased that we were able to raise $1,500 for this worthy effort.
It is our hope that this small gesture will convey to the families of Tony and Matt and our neighbors in Hoonah how touched and deeply saddened we are by their loss. They remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Our fun run/walk took place from Outer Point to Sandy Beach, where everyone enjoyed a roaring fire and barbeque afterwards. Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year's Hasty Half success: Jim Grammel, Tom Thompson, Tyra Smith-McKinnon, Mary Schlosser, Sara and John Raster, Stacy Grummett, Tim Merriman, Tisha and Jeremy Gieser, Heidi Gray, Sabrina Stickler, Sharon Forrest, Rachel Stedman, Tina Maryott-Gordon and Alicia Maryott, Dolly Raster, Dareen Puhlick, Sheryl, Jessica and Megan Hales, Sandee and Sydney Holst, Alex Fisher, Lisa Fisher, Shannon Hasty, Jim and Barbara Hasty, Laura, Kate and Kye Scholes, Craig Alton, Lauree DiCarlo, Ruth Kostik, Derek, Tamiko and Kaylah and Riley Duncan, Jody Levernierand Teresa Young.
