A Pan Am DC-6 named Clipper Pocahontas sits on the tarmac in 1960 at the Juneau airport. Pan America World Airways was one of several airlines to serve Juneau during that time. Throughout the years, the aircraft transferred to several different carriers, and its service took it from Alaska to Panama to the U.S. Air Force. It returned to Alaska in 1989, where it remained in operation hauling fuel until Jan. 2, 1998, when it crashed during an aborted takeoff in McGrath.
