I suppose Empire reporter Tony Carroll thinks I should feel guilty because convicted criminals are sent out of state to serve their sentence (Empire, Oct. 31). I say Tony Carroll should start collecting (donating) funds to change this situation.
It's so easy to have a heart full of good intentions but I doubt Tony goes very far out of his way to do anything about it (he did write an article for money). Of course, that's just my opinion. I also notice how loosely Tony used the word exile. Exile is usually associated with being banished from your country. These folks have not left their country nor were they banished. Tony seems to think it is our fault families of convicted criminals are shouldered with the hardship of not being able to visit their loved ones.
Come on Tony, drop the drama. Not once did Tony lay the blame on the person who committed the crime. I find that odd. Don't get me wrong. I have all the sympathy in the world for these families. The heartache and worry caused by those who have broken the law is just another travesty added to the long list.
