Outstanding Alaskan

The Alaska State Chamber of Commerce named Kevin O. Meyers the 2004 William A. Egan Outstanding Alaskan at the Chamber's 45th Annual Convention and Business Trade Show in Juneau. The prestigious Egan award is given to individuals who have made substantial and continual contributions of statewide significance while working in the private sector. Each year nominations are kept strictly confidential and the selection, made by all the past chairs of the Alaska State Chamber, is cast through secret ballot. The Outstanding Alaskan Award has been awarded since 1964, and the recipients form an impressive list of Alaska's "Who's Who."

Lions Club barbecue

The Mendenhall Flying Lions Club will be holding its ninth annual barbecue and auction at G.W. Teal on Saturday, Nov. 6, in the Mendenhall Mall. The barbecue benefits the Juneau Chapter of the American Diabetes Association. Through the years, we have been able to raise more than $44,000 for the Chapter.

Beginning at noon, the barbecue will feature Poe's smoked pork ribs with salad and baked beans for a $10-per-plate donation. Takeout and sides of ribs will also be available. The Lions will serve until the food is gone.

At 6 p.m., the Lions Club will auction items donated by local businesses, distributors, artists and friends. A listing of all items being auctioned will be available the day of the auction.

Call Lion Neil Atkinson at 789-9179 or Lion Robert Hungerford at 789-2014. For more info: 789-9179, 723-9168, or 789-2014.
