Former Alaska Gov. Bill Sheffield speaks Thursday at Tony Knowles' campaign headquarters in Juneau. Sheffield and former state House Speaker Terry Gardiner were in town to rally supporters for Knowles. Sheffield, a businessman and Democrat from Anchorage, was elected governor in 1982 and served a single term. He defeated Republican Tom Fink, whose main platform plank was to move the capital from Juneau to Willow.
