Thanks for helping with Day of Caring
Sound off on the important issues at
Aiding Women in Abuse and Rape Emergencies would like to thank Elgee, Rehfeld, Mertz LLC for participating in Southeast Alaska United Way's Day of Caring. This year's theme was "Be the change you wish to see in the world"; staff of Elgee Rehfeld Mertz, all 12 of them, did just that at A.W.A.R.E. in the spirit of volunteerism. The United Way Day of Caring brought volunteers to AWARE to do many needed tasks that, in the busyness of our crisis and prevention programs, fall to the sidelines. Some of the volunteer projects included deep cleaning the building, sanitizing the children's play room, winterizing the garden, painting trim, hauling heavy furniture, and making recycling/dump runs. The volunteers were enthusiastic and eager to work, offering their positive attitudes and generosity to our staff and program participants. And as a special bonus, they presented us with an outdoor barbecue grill, all in the spirit of community and sharing. On behalf of the hundreds of women and children seeking safe shelter at AWARE, our heartfelt thanks go to the Elgee Rehfeld Mertz volunteers: Max Mertz, George Elgee, Bob Rehfeld, Julie Olson, Gayle Starbard, Sarah Heubschen, Helen Axenova, Nyalambi Mulwanda, Amanda Bagoyo, Dante Reyes, Teresa Schimanski, and DJ Lindsay, and to United Way for arranging this remarkable day.
Through the community's contributions to the United Way, agencies like AWARE receive funding to provide important services in our community. Together we can nurture families and provide safety. Thanks to the United Way and Elgee Rehfeld Mertz for creating a healing environment for those who have experienced domestic violence, sexual assault, and child abuse. We couldn't do it without you.
