JUNEAU - A 21-year-old Juneau man became ill and lost control of his vehicle Saturday on Back Loop Road, according to the police.

At about 8:30 p.m., the police say the man lost control of his 2000 Suzuki. The vehicle left the road, traveled down an embankment and rolled several times.

Emergency personnel found the man outside of his vehicle, though it's unclear whether he was ejected or managed to get out of his vehicle on his own after the crash.

Capital City Fire and Rescue treated the man at the scene and transported him to Bartlett Regional Hospital. Both lanes of Back Loop Road were closed for about an hour while the crash scene was investigated.

According to a hospital spokesperson, the victim is in serious condition with internal injuries and a skull fracture. He was expected to be flown out of Juneau for advanced treatment as soon as weather would allow, according to the police report.

Alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash, according to the police report.
