The Juneau Lions Club announced Tuesday the Board of Directors has approved the dates, location, divisions in the tournament and some age changes for the 65th Annual Invitational Gold Medal Basketball Tournament.
The tournament is March 20-26 at Juneau-Douglas High School. Player divisions are specified as "B," "C" and "Masters."
Tournament co-chairs for 2011 are Juneau Lions Club Vice President Lion Steve Brandner, Lion Edward Hotch and Lion Louise Kadinger.
There are some changes for next year's tournament.
The starting age for the C Division has been changed back to 32 years of age on the first day of the tournament, and back to 42 for the Masters Division. One big reason for the return to these two beginning age zones is so younger basketball players will have additional opportunities to play in the B Division.
The Juneau Lions Club is seeking and accepting Letters of Interest from all teams interested in participating in the 2011 Tournament. Any Team that wishes to be considered for playing in the B Division, C Division, or Masters Division is asked to send a letter or an e-mail that states the community they represent, division they desire to play and name of the team point-of-contact.
The Lions Club asks for separate letters of interest for each division. All letters of interest must be in by Nov. 30 so the Juneau Lions Club can review the interest letters and offer official invitations by Dec. 15.
