The Assembly approved new committee chairs Monday night, as the new administration reorganized for 2003-04.
Jim Powell, who was appointed deputy mayor last week, will head the Committee of the Whole meetings. Powell, in the final year of a third term, is the senior member on the Council.
Marc Wheeler will chair the Public Works Committee, led last session by Jeannie Johnson. She will chair the Finance Committee, led previously by Powell.
Stan Ridgeway will head the Human Resources Committee, led by Wheeler last session. Merrill Sanford will chair the Lands Committee, last led by Randy Wanamaker.
Wanamaker was not appointed a chairmanship but will serve as vice chair on the Lands Committee.
New Assembly members Dan Peterson and David Stone were not assigned chairman slots but were appointed vice chair positions. Stone was named vice chair of the Finance Committee and Peterson, Human Resources Committee.
Assembly members eliminated the Planning and Policy Committee last week. That committee - geared toward tourism issues - will be merged into the Committee of the Whole.
All Assembly members are members of the Finance Committee and Committee of the Whole. The committee chair slots were based on recommendations by Mayor Bruce Botelho.
The Assembly approved the committee meeting times, some of which changed from last session.
The Public Works Committee will meet at noon on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. The Lands Committee will meet later those days at 5 p.m. and Human Resources at 6 p.m., followed by the regular Assembly meeting at 7 p.m.
The Committee of the Whole will meet the first and third Mondays at 5 p.m.
Finance will meet at 5 p.m. on Wednesdays at the call of the chair. More regularly scheduled meetings are expected as the Assembly begins budget discussions in February.
