Organization description: Alaska Community Services Inc. provides foster grandparent, senior companion and RSVP programs that place senior volunteers in meaningful community service opportunities with children, frail or isolated seniors, or in nonprofit agencies.

Volunteer positions available:

• Senior Companions Program: Volunteers over the age of 60 are needed to partner with adults who have physical, emotional or mental challenges to assist with everyday activities.

• Foster Grandparent Program: Volunteers over the age of 60 are needed to partner with children to read, tutor, play games, teach life skills and offer support.

• Retired and Senior Volunteers Program: Volunteers over the age of 55 are needed to use their own skills and expertise to better a community. Possible duties might include counseling small businesses, assisting at health clinics or distributing food at a shelter.

Hours: Alaska Community Services Inc. would like volunteers to donate time regularly. Hours may be set with the volunteer coordinator.

Training: Volunteers are required to attend a monthly in-service session.

Special requirement: Volunteers must take a TB test.
