Student artist in the spotlight: Catherine Walsh

Grade: 3

School: Gastineau Elementary School

Art of choice: Catherine enjoys dancing and art class.

Dancing the day away: She's been taking classes for three years and performs with Juneau Dance Unlimited. She studies ballet and jazz.

'Tis the season: Catherine will perform in Juneau Dance Unlimited's "The Nutcracker."

Other activities: Ice skating and Gastineau Skippers (jump rope).

Future plans: Catherine would like to be an ice skater and compete. Her moves include a waltz jump, spiral, shoot-the-duck, one-foot glide and "way many more."

Major likes: Country music and working with messy paint.

Her dance teacher, Janice Hurley, says: "Catherine always comes to class prepared. Even on a day that she might be a little tired, she brings joy into the studio when she arrives to dance. This year she has increased her participation in dance."
