Wednesday, Nov. 6

• Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation Wednesday hike - Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the Alaska Electric, Light and Power company's powerhouse, 2.5 miles north of Juneau off Egan Drive (trailhead accessible only from northbound lanes), for a moderate 7-mile tour with 1,300 feet in elevation gain along the Salmon Creek Trail to Salmon Creek Dam. Wear sturdy boots, wear warm layers of clothing and bring plenty of food and water. No dogs or firearms allowed. Info: Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation, 586-5226.

Wednesday-Sunday, Nov. 6-10

• Capital Chevrolet Tennis and Racquetball Tournament registration - Entries are open now for this event, with the tennis tournament to start on Wednesday, Nov. 6, and the racquetball tourney to start on Friday, Nov. 8. These tournaments will both take place at the Valley location of JRC/The Alaska Club. Entry deadline for both tournaments is 10 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 4. Tournaments are open to all skill levels and ages, with singles and doubles events for men, women and junior players. Racquetball players may enter up to three events, tennis players may enter two divisions. Entry fees are $30 for JRC/The Alaska Club members, $40 for non-members and $15 for juniors age 13-younger. • Eaglecrest Ski Area season passes - Discounted season passes for Eaglecrest Ski Area are available if purchased before Sunday, Dec. 1. The 2002-03 preseason pass prices, not including tax, are $375 for adults, $255 for youth (grades 7-12), $255 for seniors (age 65-older), $180 for child (grades K-6), $189.52 for midweek and $500 for corporate. Eaglecrest staff members will be at the Nugget Mall on weekends and holidays through the end of November selling passes, or you can stop by the business office at the Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation office (Room 218) at the Municipal Building, downtown. City offices will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, so managers are encouraged to pick up their schedules at the meeting on Thursday since games begin on Sunday, Nov. 10. • Juneau Ski Club/Juneau National Ski Patrol annual ski sale - The 49th annual ski sale is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Centennial Hall. If you're looking to buy or sell used ski or snowboard equipment, this is the time. Admission is $2. Sale item check-in times are 5-9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7; 5-9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8; and 7:30-9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. There is a minimum sale price of $5 per item. • Juneau Rowing Club meeting - Meet from 6-6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, at the Nugget Mall, across from Heritage Books, for the club's inaugural general membership meeting. The meeting will precede a 6:30-8:30 p.m. book-signing at Heritage Books by Jill Fredston, author of the award-winning book "Rowing to Latitude: Journeys Along the Arctic Edge." The club will elect officers, discuss Aurora Harbor floats and plans for rowing shell storage. • Juneau Department of Parks and Recreation lifeguard training class - This five-week class takes place from Tuesday, Nov. 12, through Saturday, Dec. 14, with sessions held from 5:45-8:45 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturdays at Augustus G. Brown Swimming Pool. The class is open to advanced swimmers age 15-older, and all participants must pass a swim test before enrolling.
