Correction and clarification

Posted: Friday, November 05, 2004

Due to a reporter's error, a Thursday Empire story about bear hunting in Admiralty Island refuges misspelled the name of board member Peter Buist. Also, Jeff Sloss's employer was misidentified. He works for the tour company Alaska Discovery.

A Sunday story about the effects of pollution in Berners Bay correctly stated that federal scientists are scrutinizing effects of the proposed Kensington Mine to endangered Steller sea lions and humpback whales in Berners Bay, though most sea lions in the area are listed as threatened and not endangered. Juveniles from the endangered western Alaska stock have been documented in the area.
