Legislators need time to hear facts

Posted: Sunday, November 05, 2006

Ballot Measure 1 is bad for Alaska. Many good bills will be shot down, because the opposition will stall until the session is over. There will not be enough time to listen to people expressing their opinions about it. They won't know what the people of Alaska think about it. It will not save money, because the money saved will be spent on many special sessions, and once you add it up, there won't be enough of a difference to make it worthwhile. Even with the 120-day session the Legislature has had to be called into special session one, two or even three times. The more you limit the Legislature's time to do its legitimate business, the more you limit the opportunity of Alaskans to hear the facts and share their expertise. Vote no on Ballot Measure 1.
