FAIRBANKS - State road planners held an open house to talk traffic issues on the east side of Fairbanks.
The open house was held for a few hours Wednesday at the Fred Meyer East Furniture Department on the Old Steese Highway.
State road planners are looking for ways to reduce congestion and improve safety in the major retail center built in the past five years. The area draws about 20,000 vehicles each day.
DOT says rapid commercial development in the area has overwhelmed the existing roads and intersections. A lack of sidewalks also is a safety concern.
The state has $15 million available for work to improve safety and traffic flow.
