ANCHORAGE - The effort to bring clean, renewable energy to Alaska the federal Minerals Management Service will hold a public workshop on regulating offshore renewable energy development next week in Anchorage.
"Alaska has more shoreline than the entire Lower-48," said Representative Charisse Millet. " If we can someday tap into the tremendous tidal energy that washes up on shore every day, it could play a big role in Alaska's energy future."
The goal of the MMS meeting is to start building the framework for federal management of renewable offshore energy in Alaska. Rep. Millett will give opening comments at the meeting and give her thoughts on the state of renewable energy in Alaska.
Representative Millett asked the agency to hold a workshop in Anchorage after attending a similar renewable energy workshop in Seattle last summer. It is open to the public and anyone interested in renewable energy is invited to attend. The workshop will be held at the MMS offices in Anchorage on Tuesday, Nov. 10 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
