Ski film 'Storm' showing

JUNEAU - The Eaglecrest Ski and Snowboard school is sponsoring two showings of Warren Miller's new film, "Storm," Thursday, Nov. 7.

"Storm" was filmed in classic North American ski areas such as Aspen, Sun Valley, Steamboat and Whistler, as well as more exotic locals such as Antarctica and Europe. The film features mostly skis and snowboards, but has one sequence on mountain bikes and one sailing, skiing and boarding trip to South Georgia Island, Antarctica.

The annual ski movie screening is a Juneau tradition, said Barb Lindh, vertical activities coordinator for the Eaglecrest Ski and Snowboard School.

"You get all in the mood for winter and you just can't wait until the snow comes," she said.

Shows will be at 5:45 and 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, at Centennial Hall. Tickets sell for $7, with any proceeds benefiting the ski and snowboard school. Door prizes will be drawn during intermissions.

Ski swap staff will be available during the showing to accept ski and snowboarding equipment for the 49th annual ski sale, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Centennial Hall.
