Better traffic lights may help

One idea I have about our stoplights here in Juneau is that they should add one extra light. This would be one yellow blinking light before the regular yellow light to warn drivers to slow down more. Most people when they get closer to the light and it turns yellow speed up to beat the red light because they don't want to wait. This will help more pedestrians have more time to walk safely across the street.

I have seen these types of lights down south, and I think mostly what they are used for is safer roads to cross at intersections.
