... from Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council

Thank you letter

Posted: Friday, November 07, 2003

Thanks to the efforts of many people, the Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council had a very successful "S'More Salmon" fund-raiser over Labor Day weekend. Although Saturday was one of those very rainy days, friends of the Girl Scouts turned out to share great food, camp songs, s'mores and an auction of some wonderful desserts donated by individuals and businesses.

Major thanks go to event sponsor, Alaska Travel Adventures, and Mike Windred and to the staff at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake, who were great to work with and did a fine job of pumping out the puddles. Thanks, too, to Ann Chandonnet for her publicity efforts, and to the Juneau Empire for its feature on the desserts and auction. Sen. Kim Elton served as auctioneer and did a terrific job.

Businesses and individuals who contributed desserts to the auction were: Virgil Ward of the Goldbelt Hotel, Lisa Castro of T.K. McGuire's/ Prospector Hotel, Joan Deering of Paradise Lunch and Bakery, Gretchen Garrett of Heritage Coffee, Mayor Sally Smith, Sen. Kim and Marylou Elton, Rep. Beth Kerttula, Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch, Susan Cox, Gregg Erickson, Gail Ford, Maria Gladziszewski, Susan Hickey, Jesse Kiehl, Judy McAllister, Pat McLear, Teresa Newton, Karen Pearson, Margaret Pugh, Debra Schorr, Mary Siroky, Becca Smith, Emily Thorpe and Katrina Paulick.

And, last but not least, thanks are due to the wonderful TAGSC staff: Lesley Thompson, Kathy Buss, Teresa Newton and Rosemary Williams. And to Juneau members of the board of directors and nominating committee: President Gail Ford, Vice President Susan Cox, Candy Brower, Mary Siroky, Chrystal Smith, Susan Sutton and Marylou Elton, who organized the event. Thanks, too, to those who attended - without them, it would not have been a success.

The mission of the Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council is to provide each girl in Southeast Alaska an opportunity to develop her full potential through scouting. The council serves over 1,000 girls in 18 communities throughout the region, from Yakutat to Metlakatla.
