... to the Nugget Mall and its merchants

Thank you letter

The Gastineau Humane Society brought the annual Pet Festival back to its traditional time and place this year. On Saturday, Oct. 4, the Nugget Mall graciously opened its doors to many of Juneau's pets and their owners for a fun-filled day of tail wagging, hamster racing, sculpting with dog food and more. We would like to thank the Nugget Mall and its merchants for giving us the opportunity to hold this event in the mall.

Thanks also to the exhibitors, many of whom also donated prizes for various contests: The Bow Wowery and Doggie Outfitter, Capital Kennel Club of Juneau (which hosted the ever-popular Wienie Race), Highlander Grooming, Jean Feakes and Karen Cleek with their beautiful birds, Little Dog Bed and Breakfast, Swampy Acres and the Wee Fishie Shoppe. We also thank Mendenhall Auto for providing a beautiful red truck for a display showing how to properly secure your dog in the bed of a pickup. Other donors include the Art Department, the Broiler, Foodland A&P, Hearthside Books, the Nugget Alaskan Outfitter and Susan's Hallmark.

Our fabulous volunteers staffed tables, ran contests, judged great works of art and monitored the halls. Many thanks to: Iris Frank; Debbie McBride; Lesley DeKrey; Beth Stewart; Dave Gaudet; Lea Vose; Michelle Schallip; Debbie and Brent Fischer, Casey Guertin, Peggy and Cathy Mattson, Gaile Haynes, the creative team of Melissa McGregor; Sarah Thrower; Kelsey Lovig and Lindsay Clark, who assisted with Dog Food Sculpting; and table movers and hall monitors from Mrs. McBride's class, Whitney Richards, Amanda Easterly, Tawney Letterman, Kristine Burice, Autumn Orosco, Samantha Currin, Jan Michael Lee, Alice Miller, Rachel Tiffer and Stephany Hanger; Linda Blefgen and Bobbie Epperly were our artistic judges; the Revs. Charles Adams and Ann Parsons from St. Brendan's Episcopal Church delivered a wonderful Blessing of the Pets.

The Pet Festival is truly a community-wide event, which could not happen without the assistance and support of many people and businesses. Thank you all!
