Sea turtles, Nepal focus of meeting

Presentations on sea turtles and teahouse trekking in Nepal will be featured at the Juneau Audubon's monthly meeting at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Dzantik'i Heeni Middle School library.

Kerry Howard will share her experience with sea turtles in South America. Steve Kocsis will give a slide show on his travels in Nepal, as well as his train voyage to India.

Volunteers for teen retreats sought

The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence is looking for volunteers to help with teen retreats in Juneau. Participants will help in small and large group activities emphasizing alternatives to alcohol and drug use.

Girl Scout benefit auction this Saturday

The Tongass Alaska Girl Scout Council will hold its ninth annual auction Saturday at the Baranof Hotel. Proceeds benefit girl scout activities in Southeast Alaska.

Preview of the items will begin at 6 p.m. and bidding will start at 6:30 p.m. Items include artwork, jewelry, gift baskets, speciality food, gift certificates and tours. Free hors d'oeuvres and door prizes will be offered.

Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or at the council office. For more information call 586-1710.

Page applications due

Applications from high school juniors interested in participating in the U.S. Senate Page School are due Friday.

Page duties consist of preparing the Senate chamber, taking messages for members and other tasks. A salary is paid and pages attend school during their service.
