Word Of Mouth

Posted: Wednesday, November 08, 2000

Word of Mouth gives readers a forum to express opinions on a variety of issues by telephone. Calls must be limited to one minute and we reserve the right to edit calls for clarity, length and libel.

Calls will remain anonymous, and opinions will be published if they meet the editor's standards of good taste. The number to call is 586-4636. Then press 8255 to leave your message.(As you've probably figured out, messages printed here don't necessarily reflect the opinion of the Empire.)

The high school music program did itself proud with the orchestra and various choirs doing an excellent job. What a wonderful evening of entertainment.

I have walked the Boy Scout trail for 26 years. I am wondering how I can access it now.

I'm upset about the blocking of the access to the Boy Scout camp beach.

Good for the bikers on North Douglas Highway getting out and getting their exercise. But please light yourself so we can see you and not accidentally hit you.

If you are concerned about the programming on AM630, call the station manager. Maybe he will return your phone call. He won't return mine.

My response to AM630's narrow-minded broadcasting viewpoint is to ignore the station.

The presidential race is just disgusting. When you look at Florida being run by Jeb Bush and the ballots not being where they should have been, missing ballots and everything else, it's a crooked election.

True to form, as soon as it was announced that Al Gore lost the election, the Democrats started blaming Ralph Nader. The problem with liberals is they always blame their own failings on someone else.

I resent Ted Stevens, via a recorded phone message, calling our home on election day after 4 p.m. urging us to go to the polls and vote Republican. Perhaps he was worried, but election day afternoon calling seems desperate.

It offends me more that Against the Grain is no longer in the comics section than the fact someone like George Bush can run for president.

What happened to Against the Grain?

For those who missed our explanation, Tribune Media Services, from which the Empire purchased Against the Grain, notified us the strip was ending syndication. If it turns up in an offering from another syndicate, we will consider purchasing it. The editor enjoys hearing from readers about their favorite and least favorite comics.

My favorite comics are Wizard of Id, Frank and Earnest and The Born Loser. Least favorite are Robotman, Sylvia and Cathy.

I'm still laughing after reading Tuesday's TOE cartoons on the editorial page. I think that's one of the funniest cartoons you've printed in a long time.

Concerning the new bear committee, the first order of business is to establish who owns the bears. The last I heard, the state of Alaska does, not the city.
