She was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Auke Bay to Victor and Dora Spaulding. On July 3, 1939, she married Jack Trambitas, who moved to Juneau from Oregon the year before. Shortly after they were married, they build a house at the top of Peterson Hill, where they lived out their lives. Every year, they had a huge flower garden, which passersby could enjoy during the spring and summer months. In December, the yard was aglow with Christmas lights and decorations.

Family members said, "Their home was always filled with friends and family, stopping in for a cup of coffee and to enjoy her wonderful cooking."

She was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 25 in Auke Bay, an assistant 4-H leader and a member of the Sourdough Gem Society.

For many years she had a day care in her home and was known affectionately as "Nan" by many. Her family said she enjoyed gardening, cooking and cake decorating, and was a avid reader. She also enjoyed picnics and potlucks and taking trips with her husband, until his death in 2004. She had a devoted toy poodle, Sugar, said family members.

She was proceeded in death by her husband; mother; father; and brothers, John and Bill Spaulding.

She is survived by daughter, Judy Haffner and her husband Robert "Swede," of Auke Bay; grandchildren, Ron Haffner, Heidi Haffner and Laurie Helfinstine, all of Juneau, and Jack Haffner, of Ohio; great-grandchildren, LaTina and Brynn Helfinstine, and Shadoe, Kaya, Caite and Brett Haffner, all of Juneau, and Norval "Norvie" Nelson Jr., of Juneau; many nieces; and her caregiver, Roy Serros.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at the Alaskan Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3839 Riverside Drive. Family and friends are invited to attend.

Memorial donations may be sent in her name to the Auke Bay American Legion Post 25, P.O. Box 210131, Auke Bay, AK, 99821.
