Petrie to pursue dental career

The Thunder Mountain volleyball team has taken its lumps this season, but TMHS senior middle hitter Savana Petrie said the close-knit group of girls and the coaches have helped make it a fun experience. Aside from volleyball, Petrie's interests range from disc golf to dental hygiene, and she loves science as well.

How do you spend your time when you're not playing volleyball?

"Disc golf is a hobby of mine, and I like to work. I work at a dentist's office where I help clean and sterilize instruments and clean rooms. I've been working there for two years and the experience is nice because I want to be a dental hygienist."

What are your academic interests?

"I love science. Biology and chemistry are really interesting to me. Biology, because I think the study of life is really interesting, and chemistry because it makes you think."

What are your plans for next year?

"I'm planning on going to UAS to get my prerequisites done because I'm not sure I'm ready to move away from home, yet. I'll probably be studying a lot of sciences because dental hygiene has a lot to do with anatomy and that kid of stuff."

What's been the toughest part about playing Volleyball?

"Missing school because you fall behind easily. It's tough to do weekly grade checks, stay on top of school, do sports and work."
